The Wait for Killing of Triśūlarōma

(Triśūlarōmavadha Pratīkşanamm)

श्रीमैत्रये :-
श्लोक:।
प्रयाते ब्रह्मतनये नारदे मुनिसत्तम!
पम्पातीरे कपीन्द्रेण किं कृतं वद सुब्रत! 1

Sri Mytrēya:

Oh! Great Sage! Parāśara! Good austerity follower! After Nārada, the son of Brahma left, what did Hanumān do on the banks of Lake Pampā. (1)

श्रीपराशर:
ततस्तु सपरीवारो हनूमान्भूतभावन:
पम्पाया: कानने रम्ये क्रीडमानो मुदं ययौ।। 2

Seer Parāśara:

Oh! Mytrēya! Afterwards Hanumān, that feels for all creatures. Enjoyed playing on the bank of Lake Pampā along with his followers. (2)

विचित्र फलपुष्पाणि विचित्राणि सरांसि च
उत्फुल्लपद्मकोशानि पश्यन् रम्ये महाकपि:।। 3

The great monkey noble Hanumān enjoying the site of the strange flowers and fruits, strange lakes and lotuses in bloom in that beautiful forest. (3)

इत:तत्रस्सहेलानि वल्गितानि पृथक् पृथक्
चचार सुचिराकार: सनीलो वायुनन्दन:।। 4

Hanumān the son of the Wind God with a beautiful form and accompanied by Nīla, in a relaxed manner was going here and there with the gait of a horse. (4)

मृगयाया: विहारेण क्लांतदेहा: पिपासका:
पम्पासरोजलक्रीडाममन्यत कपीश्वर:।। 5

Frolicking Monkey Warriors

Running around for hunting, all of them were tired and thirsty. Then Hanumān enjoyed water sports in the Pampā lake. (5)

केचित्पिपासमत्यर्थं उत्प्लुत्याद्यर्थयोजनम्
पेतु: पम्पासरोमध्ये भृगुवर्तुंलमार्तय:।। 6

Some, even though very thirsty jumped high into the sky and, twirling and somersaulting, fell in the middle of the lake. (6)

केचिदुच्चरतरं सालमारुह्नाति जवान्विता:
विवृत्य वदनाग्राणि पेतुर्जलजिघृक्षया।। 7

Some ran up tall trees very fast and jumped down with open mouths, intending to grasp water. (7)

अन्तर्जलं निमज्ज्यान्ये पिबन्तश्च यथासुखम्
अतंर्धत्यामगम्यातिमुन्ममज्ज जलोदरा:।। 8

Some others went deep into the lake, drank as much as they desired and started submerging themselves with water-distanced bellies. (8)

क्षिप्त्वा जलानि वालाग्रै: केषुचित्कपियूथपा:
निमज्यानतर्जलेनैव दुर्दुवुर्भयविह्वला:।। 9

Some great monkeys swept water to one side with their tails, dipped into the water and immediately ran away, out of fear.(9)

केचित्क्षिप्त्वा जलेनान्यै: स्थिरीकृत्वा मनस्वकान्
पुनश्चचिक्षिपुस्तैस्तै: कपय: समरंहस:।। 10

Some, along with other companions, pushed timid cautious natured ones into water, who in turn swiftly pushed the former.(10)

गण्डूषयन्ति केष्वन्यै: जलैर्जलजवासितै:
आपदे पंकमुद्धृत्य अगाधतलगामिन:
अन्यान्विलेपयामासु: यथा चन्दनकर्दमै:।। 11

Some took and held the sweet water remaining in lotuses in their mouths. Some picked up mud from the deep and applied it on their bodies like sandal paste.(11)

अन्योन्याभिमुखं गत्वा जलस्यांतस्य केचन
आघातयन्ति पादेषु मदोन्मत्तगजा यथा।। 12

Some went into the water and, standing face to face, kicked each other like elephants in rut. (12)

कक्षे कृत्वातु पीनाश्च उदतो पि महास्वन:
अन्तर्जले चरन्तो न्ये दष्टा: कक्षेषु तत्यजु:।। 13

Some mighty big monkeys held smaller ones in their arm-pits and entered water making great noice, only to be bitten by thr latter ones in the arm-pits and, hence, immediately released.(13)

हठादारूढवन्तो न्ये स्कन्धेषु पृधुलोमसु
बाधासंप्राप्तकोपाश्च ते पि तैर्मज्जिता जले।। 14

Some rode upon the shoulders of others, who, in pain and anger, pushed the former deep into the water.(14)

इति क्रीडाविनोदेन किंचित्कालं निनाय च
जलक्रीडा सुखास्वाद निवृत्तमृगयाश्रमा:
उत्तस्थु: कपयस्सर्वे पम्पाया: पश्चिमं तटम्।। 15

Thus involving themselves in water games and hunting and getting tired, yet overjoyed, then rested, the monky groups reached the western bank of the Lake Pampā.(15)

सुवर्चलापतिश्श्रीमान् पम्पाया अति दूरत:
सुश्राव सामगानानि मुनीनां सत्रयागत:।। 16

Then, Hanumān, the spouse of Suvarcchala, heard the melodious singing in Sāmavēda tradition (Sāmagāna) from the penance rituals being performed by sages.(16)

यज्ञभुग्यज्ञफलद: हनुमान्सामगायिन:
आमन्त्रितो मन्त्रविधि संप्राप्तो यज्ञवाटिकाम्।। 17

On being invited appropriately by the Sāmagāna singers, Hanumān, the receiver of the things offered in fire sacrifices as well as the giver of fruits of penances, reached the enclosed garden (vāţikā) where the penance was being performed.(17)

आदिदेश स्वकान् भृत्यान् सर्वभूतदयापर:
संवादो त्र न कर्तव्यं आश्रमे मुनिसेविते।। 18

Reaching there, Hanumān, kind towards all, commanded his followers not to indulge in boisterous talking in the hermitage (āśrama) being served by the sages.(18)

इत्यादिष्टा: कपीन्द्रेण कपिवर्या: परस्परम्
वृक्षशाखान् समालंब्य तस्थुश्चित्रार्पिता इव।। 19

So commanded by the mighty Hanumān, all the monkey worriors went up the trees and sat on branches quietly like statues. (19)

सर्वभूतान्तरस्थो सि निजभक्तपरायण:
हनुमानपि शाखागे्र समलीयत सर्वदृक्।। 20

Thouh he is present in the souls of every one, because he is fond of devotees, His glances were on those settled in the top most branches.(20)

अथांतरे महाकाय: क्रूरकर्मासिपुत्रक:
त्रिशूलरोम: निर्यातो दैवाद्गहनगह्नरात्।। 21

The huge-sized and evil-doer Triśūlarōma, the son of demon Asi, suddenly came out of the bushes of the forest casually.(21)

श्रुत्वा तु सामगानानि राक्षसो लोककर्शन:
परुषं भीषणाकारो भीषयस्व्यसदन् मुनीन्।। 22

The tormentor of the world and frighteningly ugly Triśūlarōma, made ghastly shouts and frightenrd the sages singing the sāmagāna.(22)

तेन नादेन संत्रस्तास्तप्तयज्ञांगसाधना:
बभूवुश्शोकनिर्विणा: असमाप्तक्रतूद्यमा:।। 23

Frightened by those loud shouts, the sages grieved for incompleteness of the ritual as the instruments of performing the ritual penance fell off their hands out of fear. (23)

समागतो यथापूर्वं विघ्नकर्तासिपुत्रक:
क्व गन्तव्यमिदानीं न: विहाय क्रतुमुत्तमम्।। 24

As in the past this intereferer son of Asi, Triśūlarōma came. Where can we go leaving this great ritual incomplete?(24)

असमाप्तौ क्रतौ नूनं सद्य: कर्ता विनश्यति
अथवा स्थीयते ह्मत्र रक्षो नूनं बधिष्यति।। 25

The performer of the ritual invariably dies if he leaves the ritual incomplete. (25)

कस्त्रातानो द्य भीतानां शरण्यश्शरणार्थिनाम्
इति व्याकुलचित्तेषु ब्राह्मणेषु क्रतूत्तमे।। 26

Who will protect us now, the frightened? Who will protect us even after seeking asylum?, As those Brāhmin people are in a state of disturbed mind.(26)

सद्य: पपात स्तुग्ग्भांडं दैत्य: परमकोपन:
हाहेति प्रोचुरुद्वेगात् कश्यपाद्या महर्षय:।। 27

Immediately the very angry demon threw away the pot of the ritual (hōmapātra). Then Kaśyapa and other sages wailed ‘hāhā’ repeatedly. (27)

अथाुसरो मुनीन्प्राह कोपसंरक्तलोचन:
किमेतत्क्रियते कर्म भवद्भिर्भीतिवर्जितै:।। 28

Then the demon saw the sages with anger reddened eyes and said so. ‘ How are you doing this act without fear? (28)

उपेक्ष्य मां कमुद्दिश्य क्रियते मन्दबुद्धिभि:
मद्विना वरदो न्यश्च कोवा स्ते जगतांत्रये।। 29

Hey! Dumb-witted! Leaving me, for whom are you performing this ritual? Except me, who else in the world will give you a boon? (29)

हूयते किमिदं वह्नौ इन्द्रायेत्यनलाय च
वायवे वरुणायेति स्वाहेति च मुहुर्मुहु:।। 30

Why do you put things in the fire and utter again and again the ‘swāhā’ sound in favour in of Indra, Fire God Agni, Wind God Vāyu and Water Lord Varuņa?(30)

एते त्रिशूलरोमाणं जगदीशं न बुघ्यते
खिलीकृताहि बहव: क्रतवो मद्विना कृता:।। 31

Many rituals were lost for performing in my absence and by nor recognizing me as the lord of the universe. (31)

जानन्त्येव भवंतो पि ह्यनुभूतमिदं पुरा
त्रिशूलरोमनामा यं सद्योत्कर्षेण वर्तते।। 32

You too better know this fact. You too have experienced this in the past. This Triśūlarōma will always be on the top.(32)

ब्रह्मादयस्सुरेन्द्राश्च मत्तो भीता: पलायिता:
उपद्रुता मया दैत्या: इतरेषांतु का गति:।। 33

Even Brahma and others and Indra and others ran away out of fear from me. Even demons were troubled by me.What to tell about the fate of others?’(33)

अद्य प्रभृति वो कार्यमकार्यं घ्रुवमीदृशम्
इति दंष्टाधरोष्ठेन दन्तान्कटकटाप्य च
तर्जिता मुनयस्सर्वे तेन हुंकारपूर्वकम्।। 34

Loudly grinding his teeth and loudly growling, he threatented the sages not to do so here afterwards.(34)

इदमाज्यमिदं पिष्ठं कपालेषु च संस्कृतं
पुरोडाशपशूनां च मह्यमेव प्रदीयताम्।। 35

Offer to me only the ghree, the flour and the prepared ground meat cakes in the main ritual vessel.(35)

श्रुणुध्वं मुनयस्सर्वे ममवाक्यं हितावहम्
मयि तुष्टे जगन्नाथे यूयं सुलभजीवना:।। 36

Oh! Sages! You better listen to my friendly advice. You will all turn auspicious if me, lord of the world, is satisfied’.(36)

इत्युक्त्वा राक्षसश्रेष्ठ: श्रुण्वतां तु तपस्विनाम्
हविंर्गृहीतकामो भूत् पिशुन: पिशिताशन:।। 37

Thus the evil meat eating mighty demon tried to partake the offering to the ritual, as they are listening to his words.(37)

हविर्बुभुक्षामवगम्य रक्षस:
सर्वांतरस्थो भगवान्कपीश्वर:
इयेषु विघ्नं परिहर्तुमासुरम्
पदेनवार्यं मुनियागकर्मण:।। 38

Omnipresent Lord Hanumān understood the intension of that demon to eat the holy offerings, decided to kill him for creating hurdle in the ritual of the sages.(38)

इति श्रीपराशरसंहितायां श्रीपराशरमैत्रेयसंवादे त्रिशूलवधप्रतीक्षणनाम त्रिंशतितम: पटल:

Thus ends the 30th Chapter, entitled The Wait for Killing of Triśūlarōma” (Triśūlarōmavadha pratīkşanamm)
