“The Story of the Features of the Wheel Amulet”

(Cakralakşaņa Kathanam)

ŚrīParaāśara:

“Oh! Great Sage! Mytrēya! I am telling about another mantra. (1)

First, utter, ‘Ōm’ (the cosmic sound =praņava), followed by, ‘Rāmadūtāya’ (to the emissary of Rāma) followed by ‘lankāvidhvamsanāya’ (to the destroyer of the Lanka city), concluding with, ‘swāhā’ (end of end of mantra). (2)

This is the 15-Lettered (pańcadaśākşree) mantra. Creator Brahma is the seer and Gāyatri is the metre for this mantra. (3)

Know that Hanumān is the Lord, Ōm the base (beejam), swāhā is the power and Rāmadūtāya is the key. (4)

Tell the utilisation (viniiyōgah) as the desire for the lord’s benevolence and then perform body-part-touching (nyāsa) with the base /root mantra. (5)

Dhyanam (Meditation)

I bow to the sun of the King of Wind God that could neutralise even the great mantra-operated weapon Brahmāstra, one worshiped by all the divine personalities and the one that, by his skills, can cut all (bad entities). (6)

The Best Wheel Amulet (Cakra)

I am telling now the best of the Amulets among all Wheel Amulets. First, draw the picture of Moon and the draw the six angles. (7)

Drawing a circle (around) outside that, then draw eight petals (angles). Drawing a circle again, draw two portals or angular structures (bhūpura). (8)

Then write the words of the mantra in the same order, starting from the eastern side. Write the praņava –‘Ōm’ – in the middle and then the letters of the mantra. (9)

A knowledgeable person writes in the six angles, starting from the eastern most of the angles. Then the eight letters are to be written in the eight petals. (10)

The sixteen consonants have to be written in the angular portals. (11)

A good cakraor wheel amulet has to be drawn on a sheet of gold or silver or especially of copper or birch (bhoorjari patra) or on Palmyra leaf (tāļa patra). (12)

Worship and Its Fruits

After imparting life to it (prāņapratişţa), with sandal paste, flowers, sacred yellowed rice and jasmine, creeper jasmine, a type of tube rose (Neriumodorum Mill), champaka (Magnolia champaca) and other flowers, (13)

To be worshipped daily after keeping a Śivaite or Vaişņavaite seat. The wealth remains whereever worship is done in this manner. (14)

Wearing it on the top of the hair bundle (śikha) or around the neck or on the right hand or around the waist makes one equal to the Cupid (Manmatha). (15)

Just by seeing this amulet, dead spirits, devils and wandering spirits or even great demons run far away. (16)

An individual wearing this amulet will have no fear at the entrance to a king’s palace, inside a king’s council or in front of a tiger or lion or anywhere. Oh! Person rich in wealth of penance! This is absolutely true. (17)

During sun or lunar eclipses, one has to recite the 8-Lettered (aşţākşree) mantra 1008 or 108 times, touching the amulet. A wise person can also worship the amulet for attainment of energy (veeryasiddhi). (18)

On purpose this amulet has to be worshipped in the afternoon of Saturdays. As offering, fruits rice cakes fried in ghee and other delicacies, (19)

Banana, mango, jackfruit, dates and other fruits have to be provided. Then, five Brāhmins are to be feasted. (20)

Guru Worship

Especially to be worshipped is the guru, also presenting him new cloths, ornaments and others; while the guru‘s wife has to be well adorned with ornaments and only then the best of the amulets (cakraśrēşţa) has to be accepted. (21)

Satisfying the guru with invaluable clothes and attributes, with sandal-flower-sacred rice and others one has to bow in reverence and imagine wealth in one’s mind. (22)

In this manner, one can acquire great wealth and longevity for the whole life cycle. One can get rid of all the sins and reach the abode of Lord Hanumān. (23)

Along with cloths, ornaments, everything has to be offered as sacred gift (dakşiņa, to a priest or guru). (24)

For increasing one’s power, 10 billion gold coins have to be offered. Otherwise,  twenty tiny bits (about 1/3 of a gram) of gold or at least some gold have to be offered, (25)

To the revered guru. The resulting beneficial results can just not be described. (26)

Whichever king presents to the guru a horse or a palanquin, will become the supreme authority and emperor of all the great islands. (27)

What more to tell about this? Whatever one wishes and worships the guru on purpose that one will get it definitely. There is no doubt about it. (28)

Whichever evil-minded one deceives the Godly guru, that one will get nothing in this world and will suffer hell in the other world. (29)

If one is totally incapable of gifting anything to the guru, one can satisfy the kind guru by service or showing reverence. (30)

Whichever a seeker behaves without faith but with ego, will wither away like a harmful insect. There is no doubt about that. (31)

Why to say so much? A mantra expert should not be miserly and worship the guru. Or satisfy him with service. (32)

A wise person tells that his guru is great. The nantra itself has to be kept a secret. The best two duties that can give achievement (siddhi) are devotion towards the guru and keeping the mantra a secret. (33)

The three main things are the guru, the mantra and the God. Among these the guru that has imparted the mantra is the top one. Hence, a knowing person must always worship the guru. (34)

If the guru is happy, the whole world is happy. A contented guru gives imparts everything. If God is angry (with you) the guru will protect. If that guru himself is angry, there is no one to protect. (35)

There is no relief from sin to the faithless and to the cheater of a guru. (36)

Guru worship must always be carried out with devotion and faith in all Hanumān related rituals and festivals. (37)

A person cheating a guru that has imparted the mantra, is lowly and turns into a wandering spirit (pisāca) after having a hundred lives as a dog. (38)

Such a person lives wretchedly for 10,000 years with hunger and thirst in a ghastly forest not visited by humans and is full of dangerous thorns.(39)

Such an individual will be rendered free again, only by a good guru. Wise people say that a guru is one that imparts to you a mantra or kavaca (protective hymn) or invocative hymns (stōtra) or even a nyāsa (body touching ritual). (40)

One that belittles such a guru lives only for suffering in the hell. By following that guru only one can definitely gain attainment. (41)

A person with too much of miserliness, too much of desire and reciting a mantra without impartation of the same by a guru, will become a flesh-eating spirit. (42)

If the guru is a different place, the one intending to practice recitation of a mantra should worship the lord, offer rice-milk pudding (pāyasa), reverentially, bow to the foot-wear (pādukāni) of the guru, and then recite the mantra. (43)

A Unique Mantra

Oh! Mytrēya! I am telling about another secret mantra, the very best one. Listen to this that does well to the people of the world. (44)

If the mantra letters were not told, one has to recite three Omkars (Om, Om, Om). If the base letter (beeja of the mantra) was not told, the first letter of the God (dēvatā) has to be uttered. (45)

One has to recite the mantra most liked by him/her self, but as stipulated. Others can be recited according to one’s own capacity. (46)

It would not be a mistake if it is a bit more or a bit less in this regard. Such is the procedure of mantra reciters, as told by Śātātapa. (47)

One has to offer things in fire of the fire-sacrifice (hōma) pronouncing saaor va or. Hence the word swāhā has to be uttered while performing hōma. (48)

One should not delay between uttering swāhā and offering during performance of the hōma. (49)

Attainment can be gained by concentrating on the space between the eye brows or on the tip of the nose or on the string of alphabets (akşaramālā). (50)

One has to meditate keeping the aim in the heart (mind), look on the outside and think about best of monkeys, Hanumān. (51)

The mantra Gāyatriswāhā (base hymn), stipulated mudras (gesticulations), sooktam (invocation hymns), sahasranāma (1000 or many names) and yantras (amulets) of the desired beloved God are the five, (52)

Basic things of God’s grace (daivānugrahamāla) for giving attainment of the mālāmantra. Hence the mantra experts tell them as moolapańcakam (the Basic Five). (53)

Whoever does not know this Five (Pańcakam) cannot obtain the grace of the lord. Hence this Basic Five has to be obtained by putting in every effort. (54)
